12/07/18 – Grand Avenue Bridge Update

Posted on December 7, 2018

measure aa

During mid-November, the contractor installed 27’ deep pile foundations on each side of the San Rafael Canal. While the pounding of concrete generated a lot of noise, the work was done in about 12 working hours split up over three days. The next step is for the contractor to construct the bridge abutments on top of the deep foundations. On November 29th, the contractor temporarily removed the southbound travel lane on the vehicle bridge. With sufficient working space, the contractor demolished the existing barrier during the week of December 4th. The new barrier is slated for construction in early January and will meet all current Caltrans standards for safety. The pedestrian bridge has been ordered and is scheduled to arrive on site in mid-February with installation in March 2019.
Thank you to voters for approving Measure AA in November! The transportation sales tax dollars are the largest source of funding for the new Grand Avenue Pedestrian Bridge.
