Bulky Waste Collection and Recycling Events
Neighborhood Collection Events
The City is conducting a pilot project in conjunction with Zero Waste Marin, Mattress Recycling Council, Marin Sanitary Service, and Conservation Corps North Bay to encourage the legal disposal of unwanted items and better understand community needs. The pilot includes a series of free bulky item collection events for residents of multi-family complexes to drop off and recycle their items. These are for multi-family residents of San Rafael only (i.e., residents in apartment complexes).
No businesses, no single-family residents, no hazardous waste allowed.

Last Saturday of the month*, 8am - 2 pm at Pickleweed Park, 50 Canal Street
*November 22, *December 20 (due to the holidays)

FAQs
Q: How many items can I bring to the event?
A: Multi-family residents may bring up to one pickup truck bed's worth of items to the event.
Q: Can I bring refrigerators or microwaves to drop off at the event?
A: No. Refrigerators and microwaves are considered hazardous materials and cannot be dropped off at the events. If you need to get rid of a fridge, please call (415) 485-3174 and someone will get back to you about your disposal options. You may also dispose of the fridge at Marin Resource Recovery Center at 565 Jacoby St., San Rafael, CA. Q: Can I bring appliances other than refrigerators and microwaves to the event?
A: Yes. Other appliances, such as old washing machines, dishwashers, toasters, may be dropped off at the event.
Q: Can I bring non-bulky items to the event, such as garbage bags or boxes full of household items?
A: Yes. As long as the items are not Household Hazardous Waste, you may bring non-bulky items to the event.
Q: Can I bring Household Hazardous Waste (electronics, paint, oil, batteries, cleaning products, and more) to the event?
A: No. Household Hazardous Waste must be brought to Marin Sanitary Service's Household Hazardous Waste Facility at 565 Jacoby St., San Rafael CA. For more info on what is considered Household Hazardous Waste, please check out: https://marinhhw.com/residential-guidelines-marin-hhw/
Q: What about single-family residents?
A: If you live in a single-family home, Marin Sanitary Service offers residential customers (who have a personal MSS account) two (2), scheduled bulky item collections of up to two (2) items each time at no extra charge.
