The San Rafael Traffic Engineering division successfully had the Canal Community Based Transportation Plan (CBTP) approved at City Council recently. This plan is community driven and summarizes the transportation challenges experienced by the residents in this area. The biggest challenges we heard about were lack of street lighting, frequency of transit and cleanliness of bus stops, and lack of bicycle and pedestrian routes throughout as well as in and out of the neighborhood. The plan came up with over 10 “solutions” with proposed project timelines, potential funding sources, and quick build and long term improvements. The City is thankful for all the collaboration with Canal Alliance, Voces del Canal, and our partner transit agencies. This plan was approved with minor comments at City Council on June 21 and approved by Transportation Authority of Marin (TAM) on July 11. Next up: seeking grant funding!
