City of San Rafael Responds to Fire near the shuttered Regency Cinema

Posted on August 3, 2024

In response to the recent fire near the shuttered Regency Cinema on June 27, 2024, the City of San Rafael has taken immediate and comprehensive measures to ensure the safety of nearby residents and address community concerns.

The City’s Wildfire Mitigation team immediately contacted the Regency Cinema’s property owners to develop a robust action plan to reduce future risks. Engaging with both the local property manager and owner, the City anticipates resolving any remaining issues in the coming weeks.

City staff also conducted wildfire risk assessments in the Contempo Marin HOA. Based on these assessments, staff also conducted individual home evaluations. These evaluations provided detailed wildfire risk reduction reports, outlining necessary and recommended steps to minimize wildfire ignition and spread, as well as available resources.

Additionally, the Captain’s Cove Homeowners Association has undergone an evaluation to address wildfire hazards. The evaluations covered individual properties and common areas, and detailed specific actions residents should take to improve fire safety in their neighborhood. The Captain’s Cove HOA management team has met with staff and will present a proposed phased approach for the necessary adjustments in August. City staff will continue to work with the HOA and will periodically assess progress.

Residents are encouraged to schedule an evaluation with our Wildfire Mitigation team if they would like to discuss ways to better prepare their families and homes for wildfires.

Thank you for helping us protect our community from wildfire risks.
