Disaster Preparedness Month

National Preparedness Month serves as a reminder to prepare, now and throughout the year, for emergencies. This year’s theme is “Don’t Wait, Communicate. Make Your Emergency Plan Today,” with an emphasis on youth, older adults, and people with disabilities and others with access and functional needs. Disaster can strike at any time without warning. The City of San Rafael encourages all residents and businesses to be prepared for when – not if – the next emergency will occur. How prepared are you?

Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Make a family communication plan and practice
  • Build a kit, including a flashlight, first aid kit, manual can opener, sanitation supplies, cash in small denominations, and water and food for at least 3-5 days.
  • Don’t forget about your pet!
