State law (SB 415) requires cities to change local elections to even-year statewide elections – this change is expected to lower costs by consolidating elections and increase voter turnout. As our local elections in San Rafael have been in odd years, this change could impact the term lengths of current elected officials. At their March 6 meeting, the City Council discussed this topic and directed staff to return with an ordinance that implements this transition to even-year elections by 2022. On Monday, April 3, at 7p.m., the City Council will consider this ordinance.
