Last week, Golden Gate Transit approved a means-based fare program, beginning in 2020, that will provide a 50-percent fare discount for low-income riders on Golden Gate Transit regional bus routes and Golden Gate Ferry service. For the purpose of this program, “low-income” means people with income below 200 percent of the federal poverty Level (approximately $70,000 per year for a family of four in the Bay Area). The fare discount applies to Golden Gate Transit regional routes (such as bus trips from Marin County to the East Bay or San Francisco) and all regular ferry trips (excluding ferry trips for special events). You can view the discounted fares on their website. For more information, call Golden Gate Transit directly at (415) 486-8655.
