First Temporary Parking Space Dining Area Installed Downtown

Last week, Public Works Streets Division crew members Tyler Nord and Brendan Smith assisted Johnny Doughnuts to install their temporary outdoor dining space in two parking spaces adjacent to their business. Johnny Doughnuts applied to use the parking spaces through the City’s new Outdoor Dining & Retail Application, but shortly after they applied they reached out for assistance in installing the required delineators and barricades. Streets Maintenance crews (Streets Maintenance Supervisor Gabe Dias, Lead Streets Maintenance Worker Tyler Nord, and Maintenance Worker Brendan Smith) immediately offered to help the business install them, ensuring that they could be ready for the grand opening of their parking space dining area on July 17th. So far, the socially distant outdoor parking space has been a hit for Johnny’s Doughnuts customers, and we hope to see more of these spaces popping up on 4th Street!

A big thank you to DPW’s Associate Civil Engineer Josh Minshall for making this program possible. Though Josh was already very busy as the sole DPW reviewer of all right of way land development applications, he has stepped up and offered to take on the review and approval of every outdoor dining & retail application as well, guiding businesses through the roadway safety measures they need to have in place to ensure patrons have a safe and secure on-street dining experience.
