Flavored Tobacco

Posted on May 17, 2019

banned

Over the last 12 months, several of our neighboring jurisdictions (including the County of Marin, Town of San Anselmo, and City of Larkspur, to name a few) have approved bans on flavored tobacco and the sale of tobacco at pharmacies. The purpose of a flavored tobacco ban is to combat the increase in youth tobacco and nicotine use attributed to the availability of flavored tobacco products (such as e-cigarettes and vaping products). While this item was originally presented to the City Council on April 15 as an informational report, the City Council will officially consider an ordinance that bans the sale of flavored tobacco products in San Rafael, as well as a ban on the sale of tobacco at pharmacies. If this ordinance’s “first reading” is approved at Monday’s meeting, it will return to the City Council at their June 3 meeting for final approval.
