The City continues to study design alternatives for installing a full trash capture device in the Canal neighborhood. The project will place a trash capture device near the outflow where pump stations discharge water into the bay so that the City can comply with new law that requires us to reduce trash reaching the bay. Two locations are under consideration with a preferred location at Pickleweed Park near the Tiscornia marshland. The study will consider costs, ease of maintenance, environmental impacts, and ability to meet grant deadlines for timely use of funds. Prior to finalizing the feasibility study, the consultant team will further review the environmental impacts, including delineation of wetlands, and understand hydraulic impacts to the Kerner Blvd storm water pump station.
