Posted on February 1, 2018

On December 4, 2017, the City Council appointed a 23-member Steering Committee to guide the 2040 General Plan Update.   The Committee represents a diverse range of organizations and interests, including City Commissions, neighborhoods, advocacy groups, and members at-large.  Most of the members have a designated alternate, bringing the total number appointees to 45.  The Committee will meet on the second Wednesday of the month from 6:00 to 9:00 PM for the next two years.

The Steering Committee convened its first meeting at the Falkirk Mansion on January 10, 2018.  Mayor Gary Phillips described the importance of the General Plan in shaping San Rafael’s future.  Community Development Director Paul Jensen provided context for the Plan Update, and Planning Manager Raffi Boloyan described the process so far.  Planning Consultant Barry Miller outlined the expectations for the Committee and protocol for its future meetings.

The Committee’s next meeting is scheduled for 6:00 PM on Wednesday February 14 at the BioMarin Conference Room, 750 Lindaro Street.  Committee members will receive a “General Plan 101” presentation and a primer on the Brown Act and will discuss priorities for San Rafael’s future.
