Marin Grand Jury
In late May 2019, the Marin County Civil Grand Jury released the report “School Resource Officers Revisited,” which addresses the history and importance of School Resource Officers (SROs) in Marin County.  The report specifically outlines the roles and responsibilities of the SROs, how they are selected, and what training they receive or should receive. The report also provides a status of SROs in Marin County and how they are funded. In their report, the Grand Jury recommends that local government agencies, such as the City of San Rafael, should make SRO programs a high budgetary priority, that the City of San Rafael specifically should have one more additional SRO, that grant funding opportunities to support SRO programs should be explored, and more. The staff report provides the entire Grand Jury report, along with the City’s official response. At Monday’s meeting, the City Council will consider approving a formal response to the Grand Jury, as required by State law.
