Upgrades are planned for one of the City’s oldest sections of central San Rafael near the Canal. At their Monday meeting, the City Council will review a bid from Northern Pacific Corporation for installation of new curb ramps, sidewalk, storm drain construction and a traffic signal. Focus is on safety for pedestrians by removing the ‘pork-chop’ island on the southwest corner, moving the traffic signal pole that is occasionally struck by vehicles and on the southeast corner, the City will install a widened sidewalk leading to the future bicycle/pedestrian bridge.
