Maintenance Divisions
Public Works has four core Maintenance Divisions: Streets, Parks, Facilities, and Vehicle Maintenance.
Streets Maintenance
The City's 13 Streets Maintenance Staff are engaged in the repair, maintenance, and construction of public infrastructure within the right of way including street markings and signage, asphalt, citywide drainage infrastructure, and street sweeping. Critically, the Streets Division is assisted by the Parks Division in the preparation for and active response during winter storm events. Streets Maintenance maintains 12 stormwater pump stations throughout the City.
Parks Maintenance
Twelve Parks employees oversee the maintenance, repair, improvement, and cleaning of City parks, open space trails, street medians and roadside parkways and downtown beautification improvements including Fourth Street tree maintenance. The City’s system of parks and community centers include expansive recreation features such as large playgrounds, sports fields, and swimming pools.
Facilities Maintenance
Three Facilities maintenance staff manage repairs, ongoing maintenance and minor construction associated with the City’s 25 public buildings; including City Hall, Fire Stations, Public Works Corp Yard. Community Centers, Childcare Centers and the Library. Staff perform in-house repairs and manage contractors in carpentry, plumbing, interior remodeling, painting, lighting systems, HVAC systems, and a variety of other facility repairs as needed.
Vehicle Maintenance
Three Vehicle Maintenance staff perform constant maintenance on the City’s 200 fleet vehicles and 70 pieces of heavy equipment such as a backhoe and vactor truck. The vehicle maintenance team tracks and performs repairs on all Police Department patrol cars and detective units, as well as the Public Works' department expansive fleet of work trucks and equipment. The DPW Vehicle Maintenance team works closely with the specialized Fire Department engine and ambulance mechanic.
