DPW recently received its order of 5 new hybrid patrol cars to replace 5 older model non-hybrid patrol cars. DPW staff will coordinate with the Police Department and vendors to get these cars outfitted to be placed into service. Since a hybrid battery powers the vehicle electronics instead of the gasoline engine while idling, we will see a 30% savings in fuel usage. Once the vehicles are in service, almost half the patrol car fleet will be hybrids thus supporting the City’s green initiatives.
