San Rafael’s new Public Safety Center (PSC) is nearing completion and we plan to open this summer. The contractor, Alten Construction, is working on the sidewalks around the building and a sidewalk “bulb-out” is required to create a safer crosswalk between the City Hall and the new PSC. In order to accomplish that work, the eastbound travel lane of Fifth Avenue between C & D Streets needs to be closed for a period of time.
The closure will start on Thursday, February 27 and continue through Friday, March 6. The road will be temporarily reopened during the evening of February 28 through the weekend. Detour signage and a message board will be installed ahead of time informing of the upcoming closures and detours. Travelers will be able to detour north at E Street, continue on Mission Street, and return to Fifth Avenue at C Street, or, detour south at D Street, continue on Fourth Street, and return to Fifth Avenue via C Street.
