Notice of Election, Measure, and Deadlines

We’re excited to announce that the General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Election Day.

Offices Up for Election:

  • Mayor (4-year term)
  • District 1/Southern City Councilmember (4-year term)
  • District 4/Northern City Councilmember (4-year term)
  • City Attorney (part-time, 4-year term)
  • City Clerk and Assessor (4-year term)
  • Area 1 Board of Education Trustee (4-year term)
  • Area 3 Board of Education Trustee (4-year term)
  • Area 5 Board of Education Trustee (4-year term)

Filing for Office: Nomination Papers can be picked up and filed with the City Clerk’s Office from Monday, July 15, 2024, through Friday, August 9, 2024, during regular business hours (Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.). If an incumbent does not file, there will be an extension until Wednesday, August 14, 2024, for other candidates to submit their papers.

Complete the Candidate Application online before visiting the City Clerk’s Office. For assistance, call 415-485-3066. After submitting your application, you’ll be contacted to schedule an appointment for your Nomination Papers.

If there are not enough nominees and no petition for an election is filed, appointments will be made according to Elections Code Section 10229.

NOTICE OF MEASURE

Proposed Measure: CITY OF SAN RAFAEL TAX MEASURE P

“Shall the City of San Rafael levy an annual special parcel tax to fund the construction of a new Albert Park main library and community center, at a rate of $0.145 per square foot of improved building area and $75.00 per vacant parcel, generating an estimated $6,370,000 annually for thirty years or until construction bonds are satisfied?”

Submitting Arguments: Direct arguments for or against the measure (300 words max) must be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 19, 2024. Arguments must follow the California Elections Code. Copies of arguments will be printed in the sample ballots sent to voters.

Rebuttal Arguments: Rebuttals (250 words max) can be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 26, 2024. Rebuttals will be printed following the direct arguments they address.

Verification Form: A verification form from the City Clerk’s Office must accompany all arguments and rebuttals.
