We had our first two Park-A-Month volunteer days on April 21st (Gerstle Park) and May 5th (Sun Valley Park). Both events had a good turnout, with 30 volunteers showing up at Gerstle Park and nearly 50 at Sun Valley. Many saw the event on NextDoor, signs in the neighborhood and volunteer postings on the website. At each event volunteers helped remove weeds from the playground, spread mulch, plant flowers, and. All tasks that DPW prepared for the events were accomplished!
Info about the volunteers: The LDS church of Terra Linda, one of our dedicated service groups, planned ahead with me and brought about 15 adults and 5 youth. Approximately 10 neighbors plus kids came due to the A- frame signs I set up on Tuesday or were coming to the park to play and helped. Others saw in other media from Next Door, our volunteer website and to IJ announcement earlier last week. One youth from Marin Country Day School (who lives in SF) working toward his black belt, brought his family and friend as part of his black belt community service requirement.
