As you may be aware, The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) delayed the start of the 2023-2024 California commercial Dungeness crab fishing season due to risk of marine life entanglement until December 16, at the earliest. With that knowledge, our crab vendor pivoted and placed an order for fresh crab from a commercial fishery in the Pacific Northwest, allowing us to confidently move forward with the December 9 crab feed.
Unfortunately, we were informed on Wednesday, December 6, that crab season has been curtailed along the entire Pacific Coast, and there is no commercially caught fresh crab to purchase.
In good conscience, we will not do a “bait and switch” on our valued supporters by substituting our advertised fresh crab for frozen. Subsequently we have made the difficult decision to reschedule Saturday’s Crab Feed to Saturday, January 13.
The crab feed is the Fire Foundation’s sole fundraising event for the year and your purchase of tickets, along with the generosity of our sponsors and auction donors, enables us to fulfill our mission to support the San Rafael Firefighters and Paramedics.
With this in mind, we would like to offer the following options to our ticket holders to address the cancellation of Saturday’s Crab Feed:
- Join us on Saturday, January 13 and enjoy our Fresh Crab Feast and our silent auction! (No action necessary – we will keep you on the guest list for January 13)
Please email us at info@srfirefoundation.org if you prefer one of the following options:
- If you are unable to join us on January 13, designate your ticket purchase as a cash donation. We will send you a donation tax receipt.
- Submit your request for a refund and we will issue refunds promptly per your instructions.
Needless to say, an enormous amount of planning and preparation has gone into our Crab Feed event. We are grateful for the generosity of our sponsors and auction donors and it is our hope that we can all come together on Saturday January 13 to enjoy a belated, but no less delicious and successful, Crab Feed to support our San Rafael Firefighters/Paramedics!
