As powerful storms and atmospheric rivers poured across the Bay Area in recent weeks, Public Works Maintenance crews have been working around the clock to respond to weather related emergencies throughout the City of San Rafael. DPW maintenance crews worked double shifts to respond to a variety of storm related emergency issues, ranging from flooding to blocked roads, sidewalks, and downed trees in our City’s parks and roadways. DPW maintenance crews provided sand and sandbags at various locations throughout the City to help residents with potential flooding in and around their homes.
Although extreme weather activity caused several older trees to collapse, Parks maintenance crews were able to respond immediately and provide assistance to the community. Heavy rain and storm activity caused an uptick in stormwater flooding concerns, with DPW Administration staff fielding 3x as many calls regarding flooding or potential flooding due to blocked storm drains in the past four weeks compared to the previous four weeks.
