Recently, Streets Supervisor John Shindelus received a callout regarding a malfunction at one of the City’s storm water pump stations. One of the pumps was heard making a loud humming noise and upon arrival, John realized that the pump was jammed and immediately shut the pump down. Occasionally, staff can free jammed pumps by rotating it back and forth to free the stuck object, but that did not work in this case. A pump repair contractor was tasked to pull the electric motor and pump to try remove the jam. The task proved to be difficult, and the pump needed to be brought in to the shop for partial disassembly. Luckily, with the break in the weather, there will be no ill effects from the pump being down temporarily.
