SMART is currently working to construct their rail line from downtown San Rafael to Larkspur Landing. Their rail line follows the original alignment which was built in the 1920’s and crosses over Auburn Street. SMART intends to utilize the existing wood trestle that crosses over Auburn Street; however, they need to replace the original track and ties on this bridge. In order to perform this work SMART’s contractor will be utilizing a crane and equipment which necessitates the road closure. Since this is a main access area for the Bret Harte neighborhood the City requested that the work be performed on a weekend in order to minimally impact the community. Work is anticipated to require several weekend days to complete and is scheduled to begin on July 7, 2018. This will require the roadway to be closed during construction and then reopened during non-working hours.
