At Monday night’s meeting, the City Council will provide feedback on a proposed draft ordinance relating to rental discrimination based on the source of the income that a prospective tenant receives, such as a Housing Choice Voucher or a Veterans Affairs Supporting Housing Voucher. These types of local laws have been approved by the legislative bodies of nearby jurisdictions, including the County of Marin, the Town of Fairfax, and the City of Novato. The draft ordinance, modeled after these jurisdictions, would simply prohibit activities considered to be discriminatory in nature as they relate to source of income and rental housing. This item is for discussion only and there is no formal action requested of the City Council at this time. Based on feedback, it will be brought forward at a future meeting for formal consideration.
