San Rafael Begins Housing Element Update 

The City of San Rafael has initiated an update of its Housing Element.  This important document includes the City’s policies and programs for meeting the housing needs of all San Rafael residents, with a focus on lower income households and persons with special needs.  The Housing Element includes an evaluation of local housing needs, identification of potential housing sites, and an analysis of the obstacles to building housing in the community.  All cities and counties in the Bay Area are required by State law to update their Elements by January 2023.  Specific targets will be included for housing production and other milestones between 2023 and 2031.  Public input is an important part of this process and will be achieved through community workshops, focus groups, surveys, presentations to neighborhood groups and organizations, and meetings with the Planning Commission and City Council.  For more information about the project, please visit: www.cityofsanrafael.org/housing-element-2031
