In response to California Mutual Aid requests, the San Rafael Fire Department (SRFD) has deployed two fire engines and dedicated crews to assist in battling the devastating wildfires impacting Southern California. These fires have caused widespread destruction, and San Rafael is proud to join agencies across the state in supporting firefighting efforts. Collectively, Marin fire agencies have sent two strike teams and numerous additional personnel to support the response in Southern California.
Engine 654, staffed by Captain Nicholas Guisti, Captain Garett Northern, Firefighter Matt Lewis, and Firefighter Nicholas Crouch was deployed earlier this week to assist with the Palisades Fire. This morning, Engine 52, staffed by Captain Conan Kelly, Captain Rob Winner, Captain Jake Santos, and Firefighter Jerimiah Mahan joined the response to the Eaton Fire. Both crews are operating in extremely hazardous conditions, and we are deeply grateful for their bravery, dedication, and service during this critical time.
Despite these deployments, SRFD remains fully staffed and operational to serve the residents of San Rafael. Additional personnel have stepped up to ensure our community continues to receive uninterrupted, high-quality emergency services.
This effort highlights the importance of mutual aid and the strength of teamwork among fire agencies across California. While we stand with our neighbors in Southern California, we are also fully committed to protecting our own community.
The ongoing wildfires serve as a sobering reminder of the importance of wildfire preparedness. Wildfires can happen at any time of year, and all San Rafael residents are urged to take proactive steps to prepare for fire emergencies:
- Sign up for emergency alerts through Alert Marin at www.alertmarin.org.
- Prepare your household for wildfire by creating a defensible space, assembling an emergency kit, and establishing an evacuation plan.
For more information on how to prepare, visit emergency.marincounty.gov and readymarin.org.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to our deployed crews for their selfless service and to our team members back home for maintaining top-tier emergency coverage. Please join us in wishing our firefighters a safe and successful mission.
