book to action

This week the San Rafael Public Library launched “Book to Action,” a community-wide program from the California Center for the Book to Read/Discuss/Act during the months of March-June. Supervising Librarian Jill Harris and Librarians Bonnie Groshong and Margaret Stawowy have been leading the effort, with support from many other library staff.

This series is centered around The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett, as well as the themes brought up in the book: racial justice and equity, colorism, and issues impacting trans folks. Programming includes a film screening and panel discussion co-hosted with SURJ Marin and centered on the film Little White Lie (available to stream for free on Kanopy), as well as a very special virtual conversation with writer, historian and anti-racist scholar Dr. Ibram X. Kendi.

Get involved today by jumping into the 21-Day Race and Equity Challenge! Challenge yourself to read, watch, or listen to one thing about race and equity topics every day for 21 days. Follow the San Rafael Public Library Facebook and Instagram to get started
