Project Goals
To decommission and relocate an aged sewer main within the Bay that serves a portion of the Bayside Acres neighborhood.
Overview
Background
San Rafael Sanitation District is decommissioning a corroded, old main sewer pipeline in the Bay next to the Bayside Acres neighborhood that is in danger of rupturing and polluting the Bay. In its place, the District is installing a new main sewer pipeline in the streets above the neighborhood. In addition, the District is installing new private sewer lateral and residential pump systems to deliver sewage that previously flowed down to the old main sewer pipeline in the bay up to the new, secure pipeline in the streets.
The District will plan, oversee, and pay all construction costs for the entire project. Homeowners will be responsible for maintaining the new private sewer lateral and residential pump systems.
Construction-Related Questions, Answers, and Help
During construction of the main sewer pipeline in the streets during the summer of 2022 and, later the new private sewer lateral and residential pump systems, the contractor will designate a person to keep residents informed, respond to questions, and resolve any issues that may arise. The contractor will also work under strict rules to ensure property access and limit noise, dust, work hours, and days.
The District and contractor will send more details as we get closer to the start of construction.
