The San Rafael Social Justice Community Art Group in partnership with Youth in Arts have started the design process for the Social Justice mural proposed at Arbor Park in Terra Linda. One of the project’s original goals was to incorporate youth and with the support of Youth in Arts and lead artist, Orin Carpenter, 10 youth artists were selected to participate in the project. The artist group, collectively known as the, “C Street: Untitled” incorporates nine (9) youth artists and one (1) youth artist assistant who will not only collaborate on the artwork, but will also explore creative expression and engage in critical conversations regarding racism and social justice. Students range from ages 13-18 and attend local schools. Funding for the project and C Street: Untitled is provided through donations as well as contributions by the County of Marin and City of San Rafael.
The project will be presented in draft form at the next San Rafael Public Art Advisory Meeting, scheduled for July 20 from 3-4pm. The public meeting will be held virtually via Zoom.
