As part of an ongoing collaboration between the City, SMART, and CPUC, the city reviews upcoming projects to see how they can enhance safety at railroad crossings adjacent to these city projects. This week as part of the Francisco Blvd West one-way conversion project, the city’s contractor installed warning striping on 2nd Street between the railroad tracks. This striping was approved by the CPUC and SMART to help identify the KEEP CLEAR zone for vehicles waiting at the Hetherton Street traffic signal. In addition, a Do Not Stop of Tracks blank-out sign was mounted to the traffic signal mast arm at the tracks and it will be illuminated as a warning device when trains approach the crossing.
