As you may recall, at the December 3, 2018 City Council meeting, staff provided an overview of small cell 5G wireless technology and regulations, along with an opportunity for the public to address the City Council regarding this topic. This presentation was part of the City’s work on the latest FCC ruling about small cell 5G installations. At that evening’s City Council meeting, staff presented a draft text amendments and regulations for small cell facilities in response to the FCC ruling. After public comment, the City Council directed staff to return with an urgency ordinance and policy resolution that would establish an application process and review criteria for evaluating applications for small wireless facilities. The ordinance and resolution will be presented at Monday night’s meeting for City Council consideration.
