Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) has canceled passenger rail service this morning as a result of extreme fire conditions in Santa Rosa. The fire is causing poor visibility due to heavy smoke, and multiple SMART railroad crossings in north Santa Rosa have also been closed to assist in the evacuation of that area. A track inspection showed power poles on fire with lines that cross the SMART tracks creating dangerous conditions. SMART’s Rail Operation Center is
also located in the northern Santa Rosa area.
Safety is SMART’s top priority and SMART will continue to monitor fire conditions and resume service as safety allows. For updates on the status of SMART service, visit the SMART web page at: www.SonomaMarinTrain.org.
