Transportation Authority of Marin: Local Road Safety Plan

Staff and the Transportation Authority of Marin will present the Local Road Safety Plan. The plan outlines strategic initiatives and potential future projects to enhance road infrastructure, improve traffic flow, and ensure sustainable transportation across Marin County. Adopting the Local Road Safety Plan will help move San Rafael towards its Vision Zero, or equivalent aspirational goal to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for pedestrians, cyclists, and all modes of traffic by 2050.

Presentation of the Richard O’Brien and the Mary Ferrario O’Brien Public Service Award

At next Tuesday’s meeting, the City Council will present a Resolution of Appreciation to this year’s “Richard O’Brien and the Mary Ferrario O’Brien Public Service Award” recipient. This award recognizes a San Rafael community member who has made exceptional contributions to the City of San Rafael. In addition to Tuesday’s presentation, the awardee will receive a $2,500 cash award from the Marin Community Foundation and will be recognized at the annual State of the City dinner.


Celebrate Diversity Month Special Presentation

At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, there will be a special presentation supporting Celebrate Diversity Month. Members of the City’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Committee are set to accept a proclamation and provide a brief overview of their work. This presentation will highlight the Committee’s efforts to foster an inclusive environment, promote equity, and honor the diversity within our community.

Cesar Chavez Holiday Office Closures

City administrative offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, April 1, in observance of Cezar Chavez Day. Police, fire, and paramedic services will be fully staffed, and Public Works and Sanitation District crews will be staffed to monitor emergency maintenance requests.


San Rafael/San Anselmo Fuel Reduction Zone Project Begins

The San Rafael/San Anselmo Fuel Reduction Zone Project kicked off on March 21st. It focuses on reducing wildfire risk between San Rafael and Central Marin communities. This project, a collaboration between local fire departments, towns, and Marin County Parks, includes thinning invasive eucalyptus and restoration with native species. For more information, please see the FAQ for guidance on the project’s objectives and implementation phases. 


TALES OF THE CITY- San Rafael Little League Parade

On Saturday, March 16, the crew of Engine 51—Engineer Jeff Endaya, Engineer Colton Beal, and Firefighter/Paramedic Kevin Paya—led the San Rafael Little League Parade through downtown. The fire engine added excitement to the parade, and crews were excited to share the values of teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship with the young athletes. We wish all the teams a successful season!


LAST CITY COUNCIL MEETING on March 18, 2024

At the March 18, City Council meeting, the City Council:

  • Heard City Manager and Councilmember reports.
  • Approved the consent calendar.
  • Presented a proclamation recognizing Louise Boyd.
  • Approved a resolution adopting Objective Design Standards for certain residential projects.
  • Held open time for public expression.

City Council meetings are held every first and third Monday of the month, at 6:00 p.m. City Council meetings that fall on a holiday are rescheduled for the following Tuesday.

Marin County Community Forum: Advancing Racial Equity in Marin County

Join the Marin County Office of Equity & Catalyst California for a community forum on racial equity in Marin County.  This gathering will include presentations and an interactive panel discussion on strategies to address disparities and equity outcomes for children. 2nd Friday Art Walk San Rafael

The 2nd Friday Art Walk in Downtown San Rafael is a monthly event that is free to the public and welcomes everyone to enjoy a night of art exploration. Scheduled for the second Friday of each month, the Art Walk features galleries, open studios, art exhibits, and more throughout downtown. The event is anchored by the Art Works Downtown galleries and studio tour, connecting various art venues in San Rafael.


TOTEMS The Art of Stacking Clay

Exhibit Dates: March 8 – April 19, Falkirk Cultural Center, San Rafael

Terra Linda Ceramic Artists presents TOTEMS—The Art of Stacking Clay at Falkirk Cultural Center. Totems are common in spiritual traditions and found in many different cultures. They can describe societal, tribal, and family roles as well as responsibilities, relationships, history, important events, legends and myths, the cycles of life and death, nature, and the cosmos. In this show, more than 30 ceramic artists will share their interpretation of a totem; these might stand, hang, or take on unusual shapes.


Downtown Clean & Green Day on Earth Day

Monday, April 22, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., City Plaza, 1000 Fourth Street, San Rafael

Join other fantastic volunteers and business members in sprucing up our downtown for Earth Day! Volunteers will remove graffiti, polish parking meters and sidewalk fixtures, pull spring weeds, and remove litter to help make downtown match the beautiful merchants and business owners who make San Rafael a wonderful place to work and live. Meet at the City Plaza, 1000 Fourth Street, to check in and pick up supplies. Look for the Business Improvement District canopy!
