Overview

The Project is located in the Rafael Meadows neighborhood in northern San Rafael. The Project is bounded by SMART train tracks to the north; South Merrydale Road to the South; and Civic Center Drive to the east.

The Project would improve access to people walking, biking, or using other non-motorized forms of transportation by filling a critical gap under US Highway 101 at the Marin Civic Center Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) station. The Project includes the creation of a new multi-use path in this location to link neighborhoods west of US Highway 101 with existing multi-use paths on the east side.

The Project will connect the physically isolated Rafael Meadows neighborhood on the west side to key destinations, including schools, the Marin Civic Center, SMART train station, retail, employment, and open spaces.

The Project has received partial funding from the 2023 Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods (RCN) Program grant for the Design and Construction phases of work.
