DPW has started its annual review and repair of several storm water pumps. This year we are removing a total of three pumps for repair or possible replacement. In order to review and determine if the unit need repair, the entire pump is removed and shipped to the contractor’s yard where it is dismantled and inspected. This we one of the new and largest pumps the City utilizes to provide storm water protection to the Bret Hart and portion of the Gerstle Park neighborhoods was removed from the North Francisco Pump Station. This pump station was built in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. While it is one of the newest pump stations we maintain, pump #2 handles a large volume of water and on occasion can be damaged by trash and debris. Pulling the pumps and dismantling the steel encasements allows the bearings and the impellers to be reviewed, replaced and resealed. The repair on this specific pump should take approximately two months and will be reinstalled prior to the rainy season.
