Tales of the City: Mid-January 2019 Winter Storm

Posted on January 17, 2019

Storm 2

In case you missed it, a huge winter storm swept through San Rafael and the surrounding Bay Area, with a 48-hour rainfall total of 4.71 inches! And if you’ve checked the weather lately, it looks like we’ll have rain through Sunday. To stay on top of things, last week our Streets Maintenance crews inspected the City’s 12 pump stations, remedied an obstructed v-ditch to prevent flooding, and checked out several “hot spots” where flooding is likely to occur. Of course, our crews responded to calls from residents along the way. Due to the continued heavy rains and the high frequency of storm-related calls, additional crew members were called in to assist with overflowing headwalls, fallen trees, and clogged storm drains. We thank our Streets Maintenance crews for stepping up and keeping our City safe during these storms!
