Third Street Rehab project: Second St and Third St closure – July 6 & 7, 2021

As part of the City’s Third Street Rehabilitation project, the City’s consultant, CSW/STUBER-STROEH, has teamed with contractor, Bess Utility Solutions, to locate underground utilities using ground-penetrating radar (GPR) at intersections along the project limits. GPR is a locating method that uses radio waves to capture images below the road’s surface – see image above for a neat graphic on how it works! The benefit of GPR is that it allows crews to pinpoint the location of underground utilities without disturbing the ground. This will allow the design team to better coordinate the proposed utility improvements, including traffic signal poles with any existing underground utilities.

On July 6 & 7, 2021, this work will occur on Second and Third Streets at the locations below. On these days there will be a rolling lane closure, with one lane closed at a time as Bess Utility Solutions crews move down the roads. Motorists are advised to drive with caution and follow all traffic directional signals.
