Transition from At-Large to Disrict-Based Elections – April 16, 2018

Posted on April 12, 2018

The City of San Rafael is changing the way that our City Councilmembers are elected. This past January, the City Council made a decision to switch to district elections by 2020. After holding several public hearings and receiving feedback from the community, the City’s demographers published several draft maps, each depicting potential district boundaries and their election sequences. At their last meeting, the City Council selected a map and an election sequence. Monday evening is the final required public hearing and the 11th overall City Council meeting on this topic. The final selected map will be used for the next City Councilmember election, which is in 2020. The data from the 2020 U.S. Census will inform future maps. Read the staff report and register to vote!
