The City Clerk’s office is currently recruiting to fill upcoming vacancies on our boards and commissions. Community members can apply online to serve on our boards and commissions, and more information and eligibility requirements are as follows:
Board of Library Trustees
Board Description: The The Board of Library Trustees is an advisory board that meets monthly with responsibility to provide support to library administration, work to support the process for a new library, serve as advocates for the Library to the City Council, and help increase the visibility of the Library in the community.
Term: Three terms through April 2027
2023 Meeting Schedule: 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m.
Eligibility Requirements: Members of the Committee shall reside in city limits.
Application Deadline (subject to extension): April 4, 2023, or open until filled.
Planning Commission
Board Description: The Planning Commission consists of citizen volunteers appointed by the City Council to make decisions or advise the Council on land use and property development issues. The Commission assures that new development is consistent with our long-range General Plan, State laws and other public policies that advance the interests of our community.
Term: Appointment through June 2025
2023 Meeting Schedule: Second and Fourth Tuesdays at 7 p.m., Council Chambers
Eligibility Requirements: Must reside in District 1
Application Deadline: Open until filled
Pickleweed Advisory Committee (Alternate Member)
Board Description: The Pickleweed Advisory Committee provides valuable input in representing and advocating for the Canal area resident’s needs and wishes for programs and services; and is a primary public networking resource between the Canal residents, representatives from governmental and non-profit agencies, and others. The Pickleweed Advisory Committee works in conjunction with the City of San Rafael.
Term: Upon Appointment through December 2026 (Alternate Member)

Eligibility Requirements: Must reside in city limits.
